Ways to use the Pebble cards
Cut out the pebbles and lay them face down. Get your child to turn a pebble over and say a sentence using the conjunction. Repeat with the adult modelling a sentence.
Stick Pebble cards around the room. Children must hunt for the pebbles and when they find them, say a sentence using that conjunction.
Stick the poster next to the kitchen table and get different family members to talk about their days using the conjunctions on the pebbles.
Print multiple copies and play ‘snap’. If children make a pair, they have to say a sentence using that conjunction.
Give children examples of sentences with missing words. Children have to say which conjunction goes into space and give a reason for their answer.
Use the sheet as a word mat and children write sentences using the conjunctions.
Have the sheet next to you when reading the story and the child has to tap each connection when they hear it being read out.
Look in other books for examples of these conjunctions.
Get your child to make their own pebbles with different conjunctions and display them.
