About the Author
Nancy Simmonds
For 14 years, I have worked as a primary school teacher across London and Hertfordshire. As a Lead Teacher of English in three of those schools, I developed a passion for making Literacy accessible and exciting. I spent years guiding students and supporting schools with crucial skills like Phonics and Guided Reading. My aim is to demystify grammar for children.
Throughout my teaching career, I witnessed the transformative power of an exciting story. It became clear that the best way to teach complex concepts like grammar is to integrate them seamlessly into an engaging world. This inspired me to write Charlie and the Octopus: A Story Using Conjunctions. My mission is to show that learning grammar is fun! By clearly illustrating the practical 'job' of conjunctions within an interesting narrative, I help children effectively grasp and apply these essential language skills.
I also understand the importance of enriching and interesting illustrations and storylines when reading to my own children. I worked with a fantastic illustrator who brought the story to life with enchanting images.
